UPDATE: Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 - Part 3
In this third update for today we take a closer look at the snow, particularly in Washington. The following snow forecast layer in OSS comes from the National Weather Services National Digital Forecast Database. Heavy amounts of snow was forecast over nearly all of the Western States region, with Washington covered almost completely:

This storm is dropping alot of snow, including in places that don't usually receive much snow like Seattle. And, when this happens, accidents are sure to happen too. Here's an incident on the 405 near I-90. Note that slowed traffic indication from the Google Traffic layer:
This incident could be seen on a CCTV camera, and there was definitely snow and reduced visibility:
