One Stop Shop (OSS) Update - January 16th, 2015

ONE STOP SHOP HOME | ARCHIVED UPDATES

UPDATE: Friday, January 16th, 2015

The One Stop Shop for traveler information, or OSS, has recently been updated to include real-time and near real-time road information from 11 different state transportation agencies. OSS users can now see up-to-the-minute road and weather information for Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. A principal objective of OSS is to allow travelers to view important road and weather information across state boundaries, and this update is a big step towards that goal.

The One Stop Shop can display CCTV images of highways across the western United States, allowing travelers to see near real-time images of their entire route, even if it crosses state lines. Below are two such images from Colorado (left) and Idaho (right).

As the information provided by the One Stop Shop becomes applicable to residents of more states, it is expected that OSS will see increased use. During December 2014, OSS saw over 33,000 unique sessions, with users hailing from 43 countries and 49 U.S. states. On December 11th, 2014, a day with particularly severe weather in northern California, OSS received the highest single-day usage to date: 4,030 user sessions were logged, along with over 225,000 CCTV image requests. This more than doubled the previous daily record.

One of the One Stop Shop's many features is real-time and forecasted weather layers, allowing users to visualize potential driving conditions and make informed decisions. Below is an example of OSS displaying surface wind speeds for the area surrounding Missoula, Montana:

OSS is recognized as a pioneering effort in traveler information, having been the first modern cross-state traveler information portal of its kind in the United States. It provides critical decision making information to travelers, including road conditions, traffic, advisories from state transportation agencies and real-time weather.
