UPDATE: Thursday, September 6th, 2012
Members of the Western States Rural Transportation Consortium (WSRTC) are headed to Biloxi, Mississippi, September 16-19, 2012, to participate in the 2012 National Rural ITS Conference (NRITS) – Rural ITS Southern Style.
NRITS is an annual conference focused on rural applications of intelligent transportation systems. Attendees come from a wide variety of ITS disciplines, including public and private transportation, transit, tourism, law enforcement, and medical service professions – all engaged in the operations, maintenance, and use of our transportation system. Sessions “will bring together both traditional and non-traditional ITS users to address such issues as rural safety, multi-agency coordination, and workforce development, as well as EMS and transit issues.”
Steering Committee members will be discussing the Consortium partnership and multi-agency coordination in one of the first break-out sessions of the conference - Multi-Agency Collaboration: Leveraging Resources and Improving Services for the Traveling Public. The presentation is entitled The WSRTC – An Implementers Pooled Fund to Tackle the Challenges of Rural ITS. It will discuss what the Consortium is, its origins and history, the challenges it addresses, the benefits it provides, the work completed to date by its incubator and spinoff projects and its technology transfer activities. A specific focus of the discussion will be on the incubator, spinoff and technology transfer activities completed to date, which represent the tangible results of Consortium collaboration.
The WSRTC will also hold its next steering committee meeting immediately after NRITS on Wednesday, September 19th, 2012. Progress on the various incubator projects will be reviewed and discussed along with updates on other projects of interest. A summary of the 2012 Western States Forum will be presented as will any updates regarding the WSRTC Pooled Fund. The meeting will conclude with a roundtable discussion of recent and planned ITS activities being conducted in the WSRTC region.
