Professional Capacity Building (PCB) for Communications Update - January 9th, 2012

PCB FOR COMMUNICATIONS HOME | ARCHIVED UPDATES

UPDATE: Monday, January 9th, 2012

Phase 2 of the Professional Capacity Building for Communications project is well underway. The content focus for this phase will be plant wired technologies, specifically plant wired core/plant wiring basics, serial connectivity, xDSL and optical fiber. The project team is currently working on identifying and securing an appropriate training contractor to deliver the first part of the training sometime this spring. Students will be Caltrans ITS engineers that deploy and maintain ITS systems in the rural areas of their districts.

Caltrans District 2 covers a large rural area in northern California and District 2’s engineers have been very progressive in establishing effective ITS systems in the region. Below, Ian Turnbull, Chief of the Office of ITS Engineering and Support for District 2, describes the ITS and TMC communications infrastructure at District 2 headquarters in Redding. Ian serves on the Curriculum Review Committee for the PCB project and District 2 engineers participated in the initial pilot course training.
